Potager

An unloved space at the back of the house had a tool shed hugging a garage wall and a lone path leading to a washing line. Across the grass, at the bottom of a gentle slope were two randomly placed vegetable plots. A stunning formal potager transformed this space into a productive garden for a growing family. Avoiding an awkward boundary angle and building up the slope, we created eight garden beds easily accessed and optimised for sunlight. The garden shed was relocated and extended with a covered pergola sheltering a potting table. A seat under the orange tree offers a view down the central axis back toward the house and the lemon walk beyond. This is a working garden to grow food but also offers a place to rest a while and be energised by the busy growth of the natural world surrounding you.
