Taniwha Road
A busy young working family wanted a low maintenance garden with ‘wow’ factor for their flat circular site overlooking lush farmland. Established shade trees were added to, for a welcoming canopy to this rural property. Working within the confines of an existing pergola, a seating area was extended to maximise the view and outdoor living. The large circular garden around the house was divided by two walkways creating constraint and release and further emphasising the circular geometry. A woodland area continues to contrast with these wide circular spaces which speak to the extensive rural vistas opening beyond. Some English influence in the style and planting reflects the owners heritage. Mass planting compliments such large spaces and enables easier maintenance for this busy family. Planting is hardy to wind, heat and limited watering in summer months. The balance of form and function were top of mind in this design process.
